Absent Voter Ballots Available for May 2, 2017 Ann Arbor Public Schools Special Election

Eligibility
A registered voter is eligible to obtain an absentee ballot for an upcoming election if he or she:
  • Expects to be absent from his or her city or township of residence for the entire time the polls are open
  • Is an appointed election inspector in a precinct outside of his or her designated voting precinct
  • Is in jail awaiting arraignment or trial
  • Is of 60 or more years of age
  • Is unable to vote without assistance
  • Refuses to attend the polls due to his or her religious beliefs
How to Apply
To vote by absent voter ballot, you must first submit a request through either an Absent Voter Ballot Application, through a written request, or make a request in person to the Clerk's Office at the township administration building.

You may request to be placed on the permanent absent voter application mailing list. Once on the permanent AV list, you must fill out an absentee voter application before each election to receive an absentee ballot. All written requests in a letter or on a postcard must include a statutory reason why the voter is eligible to receive an absentee ballot and the applicant’s signature.

Eligibility Restrictions
A person who registered to vote by mail must vote in person in the first election in which he or she participates, unless they physically appear in person to request an absentee ballot at the Clerk’s Office. This restriction does not apply to active military or overseas voters, or voters who are 60 years of age or older.

Deadlines
The last day to register for the May 2, 2017 Special Election is April 3, 2017.   The deadline to have an absentee voter ballot mailed to you is April 29, 2017 at 2:00pm.  Electors qualified to obtain an absent voter ballot may vote in person at the Clerk's Office until 4:00pm on May 1, 2017.
