Help Prevent Stormwater Pollution this Summer

Summer is here, and along with the warm weather comes rain, which in turn leads to stormwater runoff. Stormwater can pick up trash, debris, bacteria, toxic chemicals, fertilizers, and other contaminants, and carry them into a storm sewer system or directly to a lake, stream, river, or wetland.

Anything that enters a storm sewer system can travel for miles, and eventually discharge untreated into the bodies of water we use for swimming, boating, fishing, and providing drinking water.

Help your community by recycling or properly disposing of household or commercial products that contain chemicals, such as insecticides, pesticides, paints, solvents, used motor oil and other auto fluids. Don’t over water your lawn and use pesticides and fertilizers sparingly, compost or mulch yard waste, and cover piles of dirt or mulch being used in landscaping projects.
