2010 Pittsfield Master Plan

Kick-Off Event 1Kick-Off Event

October 8, 2009: This event marked the beginning of the master planning process. Stakeholders from the township, surrounding communities, and outside agencies were invited to attend. Subcommittee members met for the first time and began discussing their visions for the township.

Bus Tour

October 30, 2009: Planning Commission and subcommittee members were invited to participate in a tour of the township via an AATA bus. Participants made note of significant features of the township and discussed how different areas of the township might grow, change, or remain the same in the future.

Community Workshops

November 9 and 12, 2009: Two public workshops were held at local schools in the township. Residents were asked to work in groups and think about the township through themed lenses (such as transportation, land use, culture, etc.) They wrote down their ideas on large posters for review and consideration. See your neighbors' ideas here.

Workshops for Seniors

January 16, 2010: Recent population projections indicate that Pittsfield Township's Senior population (65 years and older) will make up 20-25% of the township's total population by 2035. Therefore, a workshop targeted at seniors was held to solicit input from this sector of the population. Seniors worked in groups and considered the themes of our topical subcommittees and provided input on how the township could better meet their needs into the future. See the seniors' ideas here.

Public Forum

January 19, 2010: The chairperson from each of the eight topical subcommittees gave a brief presentation summarizing the general ideas and concepts they have been discussing in their subcommittee meetings. Community members in attendance had the opportunity to provide feedback to the subcommittees for consideration as they finalized their goals and objectives. Read the summary here.

Design Workshops

February 5, 22, and 23, 2010: During these events, residents and stakeholders met with students from the University of Michigan's Master of Urban Design program and/or consultants from McKenna Associates and AECOM to sketch ideas illustrating how specific areas of the township may look in the future. See the design concepts here.

Walking Audit

September 29, 2010: Various regional partners, including the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC), Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA), and Washtenaw Area Transportation Study (WATS), participated in the tour that was hosted by the township in association with the Southeast Michigan Council of Government's transportation team. Feedback from the tour will be used to develop Pittsfield Township's Non-Motorized Plan. See details here.
