Pittsfield Charter Township is committed to providing safe, high-quality programming for the community. The health and safety of our residents is our number one priority, and we're developing innovative ways to continue to connect the people of Pittsfield with opportunities for healthy play and enrichment. We will continue to adhere to the most up-to-date recommendations and best practices as they evolve.

Please note the following updates to our programming: 

Parks - All Township Parks, trails and greenways remain open from dawn – dusk daily. Public restrooms are closed Play structures and disc golf courses at the Parks have been re-opened. Pavilion and athletic play field rentals have also resumed, subject to adherence with safety protocols. For more information, please call 734-822-2120. 

Youth - Virtual Art classes and enrichment programs

NATURE IN THE AFTERNOONS
Parents, looking for something new and exciting to have your kids do after school? Sign them up today for our cool Nature in the Afternoons. We’ll meet on Wednesdays at the various park locations to learn about all kinds of great nature things. We will hike on trails, play games, explore outside, and do a variety of other nature themed activities. Masks are required. Class size limited. Dress for the weather! Bathrooms will not be available.

VIRTUAL DRAWING ANIMALS
Fight boredom with creativity! -- Join Payton Cook, one of our popular art instructors, as she shares her passion of art with your children, online to learn how to draw a variety of adorable animals-from the jungle to the farm and everywhere in between! We may even have a chance to draw YOUR favorite animal! Basic Supplies needed: pencil and a piece of paper, though colored pencils would be great to add some color in addition to pencil shading

VIRTUAL COOKING WITH CHEF ALLISON
Is your kid obsessed with “The Great British Bake Off”, an enthusiastic cooking helper, or hungry teen who needs some kitchen pointers? Virtual cooking classes for kids with Chef Allison Anastasio of Last Bite Chef are open for registration now! Learn to make Breakfast for Dinner.

Kids will learn beginning cooking skills and gain confidence with this engaging online class. Chef Allison will walk you through making delicious scrambled eggs and fluffy pancakes (a great meal, any time!) and the convenient ingredient kit will make it a snap! Deadline to register January 8.

Kit contents (2 person): all purpose flour, baking powder and baking soda, sugar, salt, egg, milk, oil, cinnamon, maple syrup, and butter

VIRTUAL COOKING WITH CHEF ALLISON – FRIED RICE
Rice is nice when you cook it twice! Chef Allison is back with more fun for kids in the kitchen, and showing you how to make yummy fried rice that kids will love. Little chefs will learn fundamental kitchen skills, and you’ll end up with a tasty dish you can enjoy together. A convenient ingredient kit will make it even easier! Makes a great gift and a delightful experience to share.

NUTS ABOUT SCIENCE - EARTH WORKS
Nuts About Science offers science enrichment activities that are educational and FUN!! They have four professionally trained teachers who love Science!  Our lessons are aligned with Michigan Standards for Science and STEM.

Have you ever wondered how the Earth works? This five-week session is for you! Each week students will perform experiments such as exploring fossils, volcanos, crystals, rocks & minerals and much more!

DATE: Tuesdays, 2/23 - 3/23 for grades 3rd - 6th
Wednesdays, 2/24 - 3/24 for grades 2nd - 4th
Thursdays, 2/25 - 3/25 for grades 1st - 3rd
TIME: 4:30 - 5:30 PM
LOCATION: Your home and Nuts About Science Zoom Classroom
FEE: $170 includes all material

Special Events & More - The Pittsfield Township Farmers Market will be offering online sales weekly, most weeks, as well as Pop-Up Farmers Markets in the lot this fall with limited vendors on Thursdays, 2:00-6:00 pm at Platt & Michigan Avenue Masks and social distancing are required. Order online Saturday through Monday for safe, no contact pick-up on Thursday, 2-6 pm at: pittsfieldtownship.localfoodmarketplace.com

NATURE HIKES IN THE MOON LIGHT 
Take a moon light hike at Lillie Park trail loop listen to the sounds of owls, foxes or other animals, or the crunching from your boots, that seem to crack and split into the air. 

End the walk with roaring fire at the fire pit and have hot cocoa (Covid-19 restrictions permitting). Park restrooms are closed for season.

NATURE AT THE PRESERVE – MUSKRAT LOVE
Come hike in at the Pittsfield Preserve! There's a beautiful little wetland with loads of muskrat habitation. The only catch…it is a little muddy and slippery. If you are you able to dress well enough and wear sturdy shoes…then be prepared for a little muskrat themed investigation and educational information. If the pond freezes we could even maybe see some of the bubble trails they leave under the ice... Park restrooms are closed for season.
