Parks & Recreation News

Pittsfield Charter Township is committed to providing safe, high-quality programming for the community. The health and safety of our residents is our number one priority, and we're developing innovative ways to continue to connect the people of Pittsfield with opportunities for healthy play and enrichment. We will continue to adhere to the most up-to-date recommendations and best practices as they evolve.

Please note the following updates to our programming:

Parks - All Township Parks, trails and greenways remain open from dawn – dusk daily. Public restrooms are open for the season. Play structures and disc golf courses at the Parks have been re-opened. Pavilion and athletic play field rentals have also resumed, subject to adherence with safety protocols. For more information, please call 734-822-2120.

Community Center Opening Plan - As we transition back to more regular in-person engagement since our closures and virtual engagement since March 2020, we have compiled this Community Center Opening Plan to provide guidelines for greater physical access to recreational programs in a manner that is safe and responsible. The protocols were developed in coordination with Federal (CDC), State (MDHHS) and Local (WCPH) guidelines. Given the fluid nature of the Pandemic, it is imperative to note that the guidelines and recommendations of the Opening Plan may be revised in order to address scenarios that arise as we move forward. The central focus is, and will remain, to provide for the safety and well-being of Pittsfield Township employees, volunteers, instructors and participants. Please feel free to call the Community Center at 734.822.2117 with any questions.

Calling all wizards! Pittsfield Township Rec would like to offer you the chance to play Quidditch! This is Muggle Quidditch that you can play. Teams will be split up at the pitch and then learn about each position. Quidditch is going to be played by each kid receiving a “broom” to use, 3 hoops on each side of the court, a quaffle to score goals, 3 bludgers for defense, and a golden snitch to catch to win! This class will teach you the basics of muggle quidditch and will end on a world cup for the last class. If you love Harry Potter and playing a cool sport, this is for you! 4-week session.

We are excited to offer the GRASP summer reading and math program through Pittsfield Parks and Rec! The Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program is a correspondence program in reading and math for grades K-8. The program seeks to help students retain skills learned during the past school year by providing review exercises. Your student can enroll for math and/or reading in the grade level that they just completed. The student then is issued the appropriate book and at home completes one lesson per week during the summer vacation. The development staff examined local, state, and national standards which are common to most schools to pick the curriculum. Registration deadline is May 14, 2021.
