1. When are my property taxes due?

Summer tax bills are mailed on July first. They are due in the Treasurer’s Office by 5:00 PM on September 14th.

Winter tax bills are mailed on December first. They are due in the Treasurer’s Office by 5:00 PM on February 14th.

2. What should I do if I didn’t receive my property tax bill?

Call our office immediately 734.822.3140. Please note, it is the taxpayers responsibility to pay the taxes by the due date regardless of whether the bill was received or not.

3. What if I can’t pay my property tax bill when it is due?

Partial payments are permitted. Late payments are accepted until March first. All payments that are not paid in full by March first will go to Washtenaw County as delinquent.

4. What are the penalties for late payments for both real estate taxes and personal property taxes?

Summer taxes: 1% interest is added on the unpaid principal starting on September 15th. An additional 1% is added on the first of each month until taxes are paid in full. On February 15th an additional 3% penalty is added before the bill is turned over to the County as delinquent. Unpaid real estate taxes are turned over to the Washtenaw County Treasurer on March first as delinquent.

Winter taxes: 3% penalty and a 1% interest fee is added on the unpaid principal starting February 15th through February 28th. Unpaid real property taxes are turned over to the Washtenaw County Treasurer 734.222.6600 on March first as delinquent. Personal Property and mobile home taxes do not go to the County Treasurer’s office for collection. They are collected at our office.

5. What is the difference between real and personal property taxes?

Real property: Residential or commercial buildings & land

Personal property: Business machinery and equipment, furniture & fixtures

6. How can I get a mortgage company’s address removed from or added to my tax billing information?

You may remove or change the billing address by sending a written request to our office. The Mortgage Request Change Form can be viewed and printed. Please fill out and either mail or drop it off at our office or it can be emailed to Treasurer's Office.

Please Note: We only send out one bill. If the mortgage company requests the bill and the homeowner would like a copy, the homeowner must call to request a copy 734-822-3140.

7. Does the Treasurer's Office charge for a duplicate tax bill?

No, we do not charge for a duplicate tax bill.
